Invisalign is a relatively new treatment to straighten teeth and close gaps. This type of aligner are now being used in many cases instead of the old fashioned wire brace.Using the lastest 3D computerised modelling technology,a series of braces are that are virtually invisable from the outside, are custom-made to fit your teeth. These clear aligners are designed to fit the teeth perfectly and slowly move them into the desired position over time to give you the smile you always wanted.

How does invisalign work?

The aligners are worn for 22 hours of the day.You have to remove them when eating or brushing your teeth.Your teeth are slowly moved over time, changing each set of aligners every 2 weeks. With regular progress visits from the dentist or orthodontist the whole treatment can be finished between 6 months to a year.In some cases it can however take up to 18 months.

Why is invisalign better than traditional braces?

Comfort-Metal braces can cause irritation and inflammation to the soft tissue of the mouth. The tightening methods used with these braces cause discomfort.Invisalign aligners do cause a slighty discomfort as expected because force is being applied to the teeth. But most wearers say they are very comfortable.

Convenience-Invisalign has a big advantage over traditional braces. As the aligners are removed when eating there is no problems with the food getting trapped in the wires and elastics as with metal braces.A good oral hygiene can be maintained because invisaligners are removed when brushing and flossing your teeth.Metal braces have to be cleaned with great care and flossing is often hard and forgotten as the brace is fixed to the teeth. Not sticking to a good oral hygiene program can lead to bad breath, gum disease and tooth decay in the future.

Discrete-Invisaligns are made of clear materials that are virtually invisable to the outsider unless the come right up to you.Hardly anyone notices that you are having this treatment. For this reason 1000’s of adults prefer to use invisalign aligners than the more traditional braces.

Can other orthodontic problems be solved with invisalign treatments?

The majority of crooked teeth problems such as,overbites, underbites, crowding, crossbites and gaps can all be treated with invisalign. However if teeth have to be extracted to correct the alignment, then bigger orthodontic movements will need to be made which the invisalign aligner cannot provide. In sever cases the traditional metals have to be used or an equivalent such as Damon braces or lingual braces to correct tooth alignment.

What is the procedure?

1. After your consultation with the dentist or orthodontist,a mould of your teeth is taken with dental putty.Photographs of your smile and teeth are taken from different angles.
2. A 3D digital model of your teeth is made using a CT scan at an invisalign laboratory.
3. Using the latest computerised technology,a moving 3D image of your teeth before and after the treatment is simulated. This simulation is used to create the design for a set of aligners that are changed every 2 weeks to move the teeth to the desired position slowly.
4. Your newly custom made aligners are sent to the dentist as well as the simulation to show you exactly how the teeth are going to be slowly forced into the right position.
5. Although this treatment needs a lot of dedication,if you follow the instructions given to you by the dentist the result will be reached problem free. The aligners have to be worn for a minimum of 20 hours a day.
6. Regular progress check ups are needed to make sure everything is going as planned with the dentist or orthodontist.
